Elk Island 2005 progress - trail 1 of 11
Soon to be six-year-old Freya Hammond-Thrasher has made a bold pledge. She intends to walk all 11 official trails in Elk Island National Park outside of Edmonton Alberta in one season.
Thursday, May 12, 2005, five-year-old Freya Hammond-Thrasher poses at the Beaver Pond trailhead in Elk Island National Park. Freya, and her bearer and trusty side-kick known as Dad, completed the 3.5 km trail in 2 hours and 20 minutes.
A brief pause on the trail. Little does she know that there is a bull bison on the trail 100 m ahead.
A lone bull bison grazing on the trail was startled by our arrival and took cover 25 m off the trail.
